I'm looking forward to Thanksgiving Day. Overall, I really am. However, before Thanksgiving Day arrives I have to go through the Thanksgiving Day Preparations. Clearing away the clutter of homeschool books and creative minds, cleaning those areas that are often neglected during the week (okay, maybe month), and figuring out exactly how many bread crumbs I need for stuffing to feed 20 when the recipe I follow only feeds 8. (Why didn't I take notes from last year?!)
If I look past the work, I really am looking forward to Thanksgiving. A formal time set aside to thank God for sustaining us this year, providing what we've needed, and for giving us Eternal Hope through faith in Jesus Christ. I'm thankul for the families who will be joining us, taking the place of family Up North, for enough mismatched chairs to seat them, for food in abundance (including a free turkey).
I am more appreciate of what we have as I look around and see families in need of work, friends who have been deeply hurt, a neighbor whose husband just died. I am thankful for a God who cares for them and knows how to deal with their situations when I feel so helpless. I'm thankful God is called the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort (2 Cor 1:3).
I guess reflecting on all the areas in which I have be thankful is a good way to not just look past the work to the feast, but embrace the tasks of preparation with a cheerful heart.
Oh, and just so you know what strides I'm making as a good Southern Belle Wannabe, I'm serving cornbread stuffing along with the traditional stuffing this year.
Happy Thanksgiving!
